Joining a Session
- 1Get a 3-digit session code from your session organiser.
- 2Enter the code on the home page and tap Join Session.
- 3You'll be taken straight to the live map.
SabMap remembers your session. If you close and reopen the app, you'll be reconnected automatically.
Sharing Your Location
- 1Tap Share Location in the top bar.
- 2Enter your name so others can identify you on the map.
- 3Choose your tracking type: Foot Sab or Vehicle.
- 4Tap Start Sharing. Your location will appear on everyone's map.
Your location is only shared while SabMap is open. If you switch apps, remember to come back so your position stays up to date. GPS accuracy must be within 25 metres before your location is shared.
Placing Markers
- 1Tap the Markers button in the top bar.
- 2A crosshair appears on the map. Move the map so the crosshair is where you want the marker.
- 3Tap Drop Marker and choose the marker type.
Available marker types:
Riders
Hounds
Fox
Quads
Draw
Horns Heard
Other Wildlife
Pickup
Meet
Rehorse
Custom
Use the Both button to drop Riders and Hounds markers in the same spot. Fox, Quads, Draw, Other Wildlife and Custom markers can be placed multiple times.
Map Controls
- Centre on me – Jump back to your current position.
- Layers – Switch between OS Map, Satellite, and Road Map views.
- Settings – Filter markers to show only the last hour, or open the OS Map legend.
- Zoom / – Zoom in and out (or pinch on mobile).
Viewing Active Locations
Tap the Markers button to open a panel that shows:
- Shared Locations – everyone currently sharing their position. Tap a name to fly to their location.
- Placed Markers – all markers on the map. Tap one to jump to it, or use the delete button to remove it.
For Administrators
Admins can create and manage sessions from the Admin Dashboard:
- Create Session – start a new session with a name and receive a 3-digit code to share with your team.
- End Session – close a session when the day is done. Session data is saved automatically.
- Resume Session – restart a previously ended session with all its data intact.
- Export KML – download a session's marker history as a KML file for Google Earth.
- View Session Map – review the full history of any session on an interactive map.
Sessions end automatically at midnight UK time. All marker data is saved to the database every few seconds, so nothing is lost if the app restarts.
Install as an App
SabMap works as an installable app on your phone:
- Android – tap the install banner when it appears, or use your browser's menu and choose "Add to Home Screen".
- iPhone – open in Safari, tap the share icon , then "Add to Home Screen".
